Now some of you will probably disagree with me here but I can tell you from personal experience that managing is a skill that has to be learned and then adapted to the situation you’re in.
You can take all the business management courses in the world but until you try out the theory in a real situation you don’t know if it is going to work. That’s what makes managing fun and exciting – don’t you think?
People fall into two camps when it comes to management – the talented, natural managers and those who have to really work at it if they want any chance of being good.
But even the naturally talented have to work hard to make sure they become really good managers. I always think of David Beckham when talking about natural talent. He is a fantastic example of combining hard work with natural talent to become one of the best footballers in history. If he’d just relied on his talent I bet he wouldn’t have got out of his local league.
Anyway I digress. No matter which camp you fall into you still have to find your own management style and you can only do this by trying out different business management techniques. And, you can only do that if you know what they are.
Where to learn Business Management Techniques
Watch and learn. Look to see who is a good manager in your company. Take note of what they do and how they do it. See if they will mentor you. Most people will be flattered to be asked.
Seminars are also a good way to learn but can be expensive unless your company is prepared to pay for them.
Home Study Courses – a great way to learn business management theory, are affordable and convenient.
Magazines, blogs and websites will give you the latest information and changing trends in business management.
