Useful Websites

I know I’ve written about this website before, but I think it needs mentioning on a regular basis, simply because it’s a great product and it’s totally free – forever! And, let’s face it, there’s not much in this world for free, so I’d advise you take advantage, especially in these times of financial hardship.

So, what am I talking about? Ubuntu, of course! The lovely people at Ubuntu are a group of developers who believe in the spirit of ‘ubuntu’. It’s a south African, Nguni Bantu, term that, roughly translated, means ‘human-ness’ or in more general philosophical terms, the belief that we are all connected.

Not only is this a great operating system, it also allows people with much older machines that are useless with Microsoft products, to become fully functioning again. This allows many more people access to computers. They do ask that you think about giving a donation, if you can afford, if you find the operating system of use, but it’s totally up to you. So, if you’ve got an old PC lying around, that’s slow and crashes all the time, upgrade to Ubuntu and see how it goes.

But that’s not all. Imagine how impressed your employer would be if you showed them a way to upgrade their operating system for free? Anything to save businesses money, while retaining quality, is a good thing. Plus, there’s even the option for them to build their own server.

And, for those of you interested in impressing your employers with your knowledge of money saving techniques, or learning more about finance in general, this month’s course of the week offers a reduction of £25 on our Finance for Non-Financial Managers course.
