Relaxation!

Working hard is all well and good, but you also need to take time to relax at the end of a busy day. Making time to relax is just as important as working hard. In fact, it’s essential if you want to get the most out of the time you have to work. So, what do you do to relax? I’ll tell you what I do, maybe you’ll see something you fancy having a go at too:

Archery – I’ve always fancied having a go at this ancient skill, so when a local club advertised a beginners course, I went for it! It’s only a couple of hours each week, but it’s a great time to de-stress, concentrate my mind completely on something other than work and meet and socialise with lots of different people. Is there a sport or activity you’ve always wanted to try? Maybe now’s the time!

Watching TV – I know a lot of people will think watching TV is a waste of time, but I feel differently. I think TV can be a super way to relax. I love to get lost in a great film or watch a documentary about ancient lost cities. You just have to make sure that you limit your watching time. Maybe you could give yourself an hours TV treat after you’ve finished what work needs to be done?

Pampering myself – I do love to pamper myself, but I don’t spend huge amounts of money on spas or massages. I like to pamper myself on the cheap. So, I run a bath, add some of my favourite oil and soak for a while. I also like to meditate, which I think of as pampering my mind. A simple 10 or 20 mins concentrating on my breathing is all I need to feel refreshed. If you fancy a guided meditation you can find lots of videos on You Tube. And I love to do a bit of yoga too, which is like pampering for my mind and body at the same time. Again, search You Tube for videos of beginners yoga.

Baking – this may seem like a strange thing to choose to relax, but I do love to bake. Although it’s a kind of work, it’s something that takes my mind completely off whatever else is happening in my life and so relaxes my mind. And, at the end of it, you get to eat whatever you’ve made – what could be better?

So, there are a few things I do to relax. They don’t cost the earth and most can be easily done in your own home. If you feel like you need some help working relaxation time into your day, why not have a look at our Effective Time Management Course?
