Motivation to Start Your Own Business

What motivates someone to start their own business? The answers to this will be as many as businesses set up. But it’s important to understand what motivates you when starting your business, as it will help should the going get tough.

Business Motivations

You may be motivated by:

  • Providing an income to support your family
  • Having the status of being a business owner
  • Working for yourself
  • Earning from what you love doing most
  • Improving your living standards

or to raise money to fulfill a long-held dream.

Funding a Project and Providing Employment

When Sam Holland wanted to make a film – Zebra Crossing– he knew he was unlikely to raise the funding by conventional means. So, Sam decided to start a decorating business to raise the money he needed. The film has now been made and it has been recognized with a string of awards at independent film festivals in Britain, America and Germany.

Not only did he achieve his objective of making a film but he also provided jobs for seven people in the decorating business.

All in all a pretty successful outcome!

Thinking Outside the Box

Sam’s story is a good example of thinking a little bit differently to achieve your goal.  He was very clear about what he wanted to do and found a way of achieving it through not so conventional means.

So when deciding to set up a business it is very important that you have a clear goal and meticulous planning.
