Last Tuesday was International Women’s Day and Diana and I went to a gathering of businesswomen to celebrate.
The main speaker at the event was Arleen Phillips OBE who is a famous dancer/choreographer here in the UK. She has worked with some very big names including Elton John, Freddy Mercury and Ridley Scott as well as having a successful career working on Broadway and in the West End.
Despite her tremendous success in both Britain and America she was wonderfully modest when it came to her success – putting a lot of it down to luck.
But I think what she really did was work hard to be good at her job, placed herself amongst people with the same ambitions and made the most of the opportunities that came her way.
Finding the Right Environment for Career Success
Time and again I hear of successful people being in the right place at the right time. Is this luck or on some subconscious level finding the right environment in which to thrive.
Those around you can have a profound effect on your outlook and way of thinking. If everyone around you is ambitious and hard working then this will probably help you to be the same.
Now this is a sweeping generalization but I do believe that surrounding yourself with the sort of people who emulate your ambitions will help you find success.

Here at Business Training we have high expectations of our students. We expect them to work hard and put in the effort needed to get ahead. And I am proud to say that most do not let us down. Not only do they work hard at their studies, they then make the most of the opportunities that come their way. Like our Student of the Year, Shaft Mussaka from Zambia, who used his skills learnt from Business Training to make himself indispensable at work. Plus he has recently graduated from University. We wish him every success in his career.
