Part one of two of our Blog about work related stress
If you want to succeed in your career you need to be physically and mentally fit. Many jobs can be very demanding in both areas so you need a good level of endurance if you are to compete.
Last week, however, saw some concerning statistics being published. A new poll taken in Britain found that one in five women, and one in ten men, felt that their stress levels were out of control as they begin 2011.
Risks of Stroke
Experts have warned that stress increases blood pressure which in turn puts people at a higher risk of having a stroke.
Other contributing factors to having a stroke include poor diet and no exercise which in turn can lead to higher stress levels. And so the wheel turns.
No Exercise – No Good
A survey by the Stroke Association and Siemens found a fifth of people did no exercise whatsoever whilst a quarter of those aged 45 to 54 said they never exercised, despite suffering the highest levels of stress.
So, getting fit should be a high priority in your career plan as it helps lower stress and keeps you in good health. You’ll probably find you can concentrate for longer periods of time, helping you do your job better.
Today I’m off to a workshop about LinkedIn run by my networking group Forward Ladies. I’ll let you know how I get on in my next post!
