The Winner Takes All!

It’s come round to that time of year when we’ve been judging our 2015 Student of the Year competition. We’ve decided on the winners and notified them of their success. The results should be on the Business Training website within the next couple of weeks.

I always enjoy judging the competition as I get to see how much people have benefitted from studying our courses – and how, in some cases, their lives have been changed by the experience.

We find that people often achieve promotion when they have completed the course. It isn’t just about having a Diploma to show employers – the knowledge that they have gained makes a real difference to how they do their jobs. They find that they can deal with correspondence better – answering emails and letters more concisely and efficiently. They are able to write better reports or prepare the minutes of meetings. They understand better what’s going on in the businesses world. And, they usually find they can communicate in English more fluently and confidently.

I’ll give you a sneak preview of what one of this year’s runners-up said:

“My writing and spoken English have improved tremendously. I can write reports and minutes with total confidence. And no more shivering at meetings and on stage!”

But it’s not all about getting promotion or a wage increase. For others, it provides a path to further education. This year’s winner says:

“Upon completion of my course and receiving the Diploma with Distinction, I applied for further studies. I was accepted at the University of Goroka for a bachelor Degree in Education.”

Many find that because their knowledge of the business world has improved they now have the confidence to go off and start their own enterprise – or expand on what they are already doing.  After all, it’s OK working for someone else but if you work for yourself you’ve got more freedom and the work you put in usually determines the rewards you receive.

And one final point. By improving your own knowledge you put yourself in a position where you can help your family – whether through a better salary, or being able to provide them with an improved education. You can help them with their English, with their homework and give them an advantage over others.

So why not have a look now at the 2014 winners and then keep checking the website for this year’s achievers.
