Five Top Tips for Closing the Sale

Sales! Some people are great at it – they are just naturals at getting the other person to believe that what they have to offer is right for them. Others, however, struggle. They find approaching people difficult, are not sure how to respond to questions and find it hard to make small talk. These tips are for you.

Tip One Make eye contact. This is very important. It makes people feel like you are fully focussed on them. This is especially important if you’re trying to convince the prospect to part with lots of money.

Tip Two Smile and be positive – no matter how the sale seems to be going. I know it might sound simple, but a smile makes everyone involved feel more comfortable and relaxed, which makes for a better environment to close a sale. However, this can sometimes be difficult if you don’t really feel like smiling and it is often quite obvious if you’re faking it. Practise smiling in a wide-range of situations, including those that might not normally raise a smile, so you’re used to smiling no matter what the circumstances.

Tip Three Know your product inside out. If you do this, you’ll not be flustered if they ask you a question about the product and you’ll be able to confidently tell the customer about the benefits the product will give them – this is your main selling tool!

Tip Four Speak clearly. You’ll never convince someone to buy something if you don’t communicate clearly with them. Don’t mumble, be confident and believe in what you are saying.

Tip Five Have some questions ready. If you sometimes struggle with making polite conversation, it’s useful to have a list of questions you can ask the customer. They can be really simple, such as Have you been on holiday this year? What do you think of this weather? They are only to make any quiet moments less awkward. And, you could find out some information that you could use to close the sale.
