Five Tips for Finding Work as a Copywriter

For next week’s Course of the Week we’re offering you £25 off the ever-popular Complete Copywriter course. And one of the first questions people ask is ‘Where can I find work?’So, I thought I’d give you Five Top Tips about where you can find work once you’ve completed this super course.

  1. Join Freelancing Websites – this is one of the easiest ways to find work as there are always lots and lots of jobs advertised. Plus you can set up a portfolio for yourself, where you can detail your experience, skills, work preferences and what you expect to be paid. They are usually free and it only takes a couple of minutes to complete the registration form. You simply register yourself, then search through the jobs that have been posted to see if there are any you’d like to bid for. If there are, you bid and then wait to see if you have the skills the employer requires.
  2. Blog and Use Social Media – these days it’s pretty essential for copywriters to have their own website to advertise themselves and their work. But, if you really want to use it to its full advantage, you should blog. Blogging allows others to see how well you write and, if you guest blog for other copywriters’ websites, your name will start to be known in copywriting circles. It’s a great way to build up a name for yourself as an expert.
  3. Join Forums – forums are a good place to find work and network too. There are lots of people who find work by just chatting to others and forums allow you to do this worldwide. And, if you join a forum specifically for copywriters, you’ll also pick up the latest techniques and ideas in copywriting circles.
  4. Become a Member of a Society – being a member of a society is not essential, but it does show that you have reached the level of skill and success needed to become a member. It should certainly give you an edge compared to those who are not members of societies.
  5. Join LinkedIn – this is another great way to promote yourself and your writing skills. There are thousands of professionals communicating on LinkedIn and, once you’ve joined, you have access to them. There are some factors you need to take into account, so here’s an article written by two LinkedIn experts – Tips for Using LinkedIn to Find a Job
