Ensure You Make A Good First Impression

I know that it’s now the middle of January, but I would just like to say Happy New Year – I hope that 2017 will be a happy and prosperous one for all of you.

Many of you will have made New Year resolutions (don’t we all?) and I hope you are managing to hold firm! The resolutions may be about becoming healthier, using your time more wisely, improving your qualifications or even finding a new job.

I’m not sure that we can help you to get more  heathy,  although eating sensibly and taking plenty of exercise isn’t rocket science and it can have a great effect in quite a short space of time.

But we can help you with the other things. We have a great course – Effective Time Management – that will help you look objectively at how you use your time and then show you how to use it better. The course also looks at organising yourself efficiently, stress management, de-cluttering and assertiveness techniques, so that you are able to say ‘no’ if you really feel that you don’t have time to do something that you’ve been asked to do.

As regards improving your qualifications, we have a list of different courses – from Report Writing to Project Management – that will help you to learn new skills and improve your CV.

And talking of your CV, if you intend to look for a new job this year, you should make sure that it’s as good as it can be. Why not have a look at our Advanced Business English Course. There’s a detailed section on preparing your CV and also the accompanying letter/email so that you really stand out from the crowd.

I was reading a magazine recently and I came across a lovely quote by Lady Barbara Judge. She had this to say:

‘What I’ve learned is that 70% of a first impression is how you look, 20% is how you sound, and only 10% is what you say. There are no second chances to make a first impression.’

This is very true, but before you can even try to make a first impression on a prospective employer you have to get an interview and the only way you’re going to do that is my by submitting a CV that will catch their eye!

So, whatever your plans are for 2017 I hope you will be successful.  But don’t forget – we’re always here to help!
