In this issue we look at best practice in interview techniques; how to put a stop to those night-time worries and writing press releases that get your business the promotional hit it needs.

Are You a Worrier?

Top Tips To Take Away The Strain

1. First, confront your fears. Sometimes when you do this you’ll realise that they’re groundless and you can stop worrying about the issue. But if not, at least you’re in a better position to move on to the next step...

2. Making a plan! If you approach things in a logical way you’ll have a better chance of making informed decisions. So...

3. Write things down. You need to work out the pros and cons and it’s far easier to concentrate on them properly if you have them in front of you. Also, the very act of typing or writing something concentrates your mind. When you’ve considered the pros and cons...

4. Get some professional advice. If it’s your business you’re worried about consider talking to your accountant, solicitor or bank manager. They may be able to offer helpful advice – but always bear in mind that it will be at a price. Or you could always consider discussing matters with other managers – or with colleagues in non-competing businesses. If it’s a personal matter...

5. Consider sharing the burden. Don’t tell all and sundry, but discuss the matter with your partner if appropriate or, if not, a trusted friend. People who are worried about being made redundant often fail to discuss the matter with their partner because they don’t want to ‘worry’ them. But in many cases the partner would like to help and reassure – and would definitely prefer to be ‘in the loop’ rather than the news coming as a shock.

6. When you’ve put your mind to your problem, make a concerted effort to change the things you can, for the better...and forget those you can’t!

7. Accept that some things in life are uncertain – so don’t feel that you always need to be in total control. Let things develop!

8. Finally, if you’re going to be in a fit state mentally and physically to cope with your problems then learn how to take care of yourself and relax.
