Business Bites

Return to Business Bites back issues

In this issue we show you the benefits of keeping your business and personal lives apart; how to organise your time more effectively and give you some tips to ensure that you never again sit – pen poised over paper – wondering where to put the apostrophe in a word!

Hello!

The election is over and we’ve now got some idea of what’s in store for us. I must admit that it doesn’t, at first glance, look too good. An untried coalition government in the UK, huge amounts of debt, and financial meltdown across Europe. We certainly live in interesting times!

But on the bright side, at least the politicians now seem determined to get to grips with what’s going on. We might all need to tighten our belts a bit and perhaps we won’t have as much money in our pockets – but we’ll survive.

And the best way of doing this is to make sure you don’t get too stressed about the situation. Once you start feeling stressed, you stop thinking clearly and can’t see your way around the problem. That’s why we’ve included a link to a website that gives all kind of tips on dealing with stress in our ‘Best of the Web’ section.

Next, if you’re thinking of starting a business or are already running one, it’s important that you learn to keep your business and personal lives apart. If you don’t, it all adds to the pressure. Another important way of making life easier for yourself if to organise your time more effectively, so we’ll be looking at this too.

Finally, one of the things that many people find confusing is the how to use the apostrophe correctly. It might be a tiny punctuation mark, but it certainly causes a lot of havoc. Should it be its or it’s; which is correct boy’s shoes or boys’ shoes? If you’re considering enrolling on the Business Training Proofreading and Copy Editing Course why not get a taster of what you’ll need to know.

I hope you’ll enjoy this issue, but if there’s anything you’d like us to touch on in future, or you want to take issue with anything in the articles, please get in touch.
