How To Become a Proofreader!

There are a number of ways you can study to become a proofreader. However, the most popular are by home study, in night classes or on a residential course. So, you have to decide:

  • if you prefer to study alone or in a group
  • if you want to have immediate feedback
  • if you want direct access to a trainer
  • how much money you want to spend
  • how long you want to spend studying
  • when the best time is for you to study

Residential Courses
If you prefer to study in a group, then a residential course is a good option. There will be:

  • the advantage of input from other members of the group
  • direct access to the trainer so you can ask questions and have immediate feedback
  • motivation from the class environment to complete the work

These kinds of courses can very intensive, but, as most courses last a weekend, you know that you’ll have your certificate and be ready to start working very quickly. However, these are usually the most expensive courses.

Night Classes
If you want to be in a classroom environment but don’t want to attend a residential course, night classes could be the solution. You will:

  • have the benefits of having the trainer there if you need to ask any questions
  • have the company and input of other students
  • be able to continue with your daily routine
  • have motivation from the class environment

These are less expensive than residential courses and will usually last a little longer.

Home Study Courses
If you prefer to work on your own at a pace that suits you, then a home study course would be the best option. This allows you to:

  • work in your own time – evenings, weekends, etc, fitting your studies around your lifestyle
  • have access to a tutor and student advisors by email and phone
  • study in the comfort of your own home – no need to venture out on cold, wet nights
  • online contact with other students from all over the world for support and motivation

Because you set the pace of your study you can complete this type of course quickly or take as much time as you need.
