Distance Learning College uses Social Media to Communicate with Students.

Business Training is going social! As part of the college’s move to make it easier to communicate with students and for students to communicate with one another they have introduced a number of new features. You can comment on their new weekly blog – written by the chairman of Business Training, Susan Metcalfe – become their friend on Facebook, link up on LinkedIn and follow their tweets on Twitter.

So what does Business Training hope to achieve?

Through the application of this wonderful technology they hope students will be encouraged to take part in one big conversation. No matter where they live – UK, Africa, India, Malaysia, the Caribbean or Australia they can chat, exchange ideas, encourage, educate and help each other.

Susan says:

“We want to make ourselves as accessible to students as possible and to do that we have to utilise social media tools. We decided to start with those we feel are most in use – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and blogs – and we will hopefully incorporate more as time goes on. We want students from all over the world to feel like they are part of a family that they can come to when they need help and advice. As well as this we want students to use the different platforms to offer suggestions for improvements, support each other, discuss relevant topics, network or just chat. Our aim is to build a vibrant and busy online community.”

Business Training was formed in 1974 to provide training for those seeking to improve their job prospects. The vision was to create home study courses that provided practical vocational training and would benefit students in their working life. Since that time they have expanded their range of subjects and become a leading provider of home study courses.
