Business Bites

Return to Business Bites back issues

In this issue we look at the best ways to keep control of a meeting; 10 tips for ensuring your job application form gets to the top of the pile and how to beat that proverbial thief of time – procrastination!

Business Training has now started its new social media programme – talking to students and hopefully getting feedback on what we’re doing right (or wrong!) In addition to Business Bites we’ve now got a regular blog from our Chairman, Susan Metcalfe, plus you can become our friend on Facebook or LinkedIn, and follow us on Twitter.

When things are particularly hectic at work or home, I sometimes wish I had more than 24 hours in the day. We were talking about this a few months ago and decided that many people probably felt the same way. So we decided to have a course written to help people improve their time management skills and as a result they would hopefully feel less stressed.

Our Effective Time Management Course looks at the causes of stress and then how to go about organising your life so you’re more efficient, more organised and have more ‘me’ time for the things you want to do. The course is full of techniques you can put in place – using your computer and mobile phone if you’re a ‘techie’, or pen and paper if you’re a technophobe like me. Plus it really makes you sit down and think about the direction you want your life to go in.

Having to chair a meeting is something that stresses many people, so in this issue we’ll be looking at Alan Barker’s advice on how to run an effective meeting. Another thing that few people enjoy is having to fill in a job application form. It’s a bit like your annual tax return – it’s hard work sitting down and actually starting to put together the necessary information. So, we’ll also be giving you 10 tips to make it easier.

Finally, to tie in with our new course we’ll be looking at how to manage your time better and beat procrastination! Plus in Working Web we’ll have some sites that will help you plan better and take steps to reduce stress. Enjoy!
